Meet our Girls

Where do they Live?

Girls reside in ‘casas’ (houses) with ‘tias’ (house mothers) providing care around the clock. Each casa is home to about 15 girls with a broad age range. The girls share bedrooms and live like family, including shared meals around large tables. They are responsible for keeping their rooms tidy and helping with chores, just as they would in a traditional family home. Most importantly, the girls have a safe, clean, comfortable place to call home where they are shown love and understanding.

Where do they go to School?

The girls attend school on-site at Prince of Peace Home for Girls. Many come to the home with significant gaps in their education. With small teacher to student ratios, teachers are able to adapt the curriculum to meet the unique needs of each girl to help them succeed. The girls also take English classes, which is a huge plus when it comes to getting a well-paying job in Guatemala.

Our older girls have the opportunity to attend off-campus classes to extend their education in areas of their interests. Additionally, we focus on life skills such as cooking and managing a household with the older girls so they are prepared to become productive young ladies in their communities.

How do we give the girls care?

The care that the home offers the girls is holistic – and it includes medical, dental, and psychological care by board-certified practitioners. This sets Prince of Peace apart from many other homes in Guatemala who may not be equipped to handle the aftermath of severe cases of trauma and neglect.

Every girl who enters Prince of Peace is given the unconditional love of Jesus through the staff. Our hope is that by introducing them to Jesus, they will come to have a personal relationship and know their heavenly Father who loves them.

HOW DO THEY HAVE FUN?

Having fun is an important part of childhood! Our girls have outdoor play with bicycles, basketball, and playground equipment right on property. They have toys and games in their casas for group or individual playtime. Additionally, we are blessed to have church and community partners who visit and provide special activities like bread making, ballet, cake decorating, spa days and more. We expose the girls to many new experiences to bring joy and happiness back into their lives.
